Take Me

Summer 2006

Will you take me like this
Will you reach your hands down from your holy height
And touch my lowliness
Will you wrap me in your arms of love
And hold me until I surrender
For I am flesh and bone,
Turned into dust
Longing to be recreated

  • God wants our salvation
“…whenever our sins press hard against us, whenever Satan would drive us to despair, we must hold up this shield, that God does not want us to be overwhelmed in everlasting destruction, for He has ordained His Son to be the salvation of the world.” - John Calvin, NT Commentary on John p75 (HT: Dan Morse) [...]
  • God’s free love
“For there is no calm haven where our minds can rest until we come to God’s free love.” - John Calvin, NT Commentary on John p75 (HT: Dan Morse)
  • Christ is Everything
“When you put your trust in Christ, the overpowering attraction of the world is broken. You are a corpse to the world, and the world is a corpse to you. Or to put it positively, you are a ‘new creation’ (Galatians 6:15). The old you is dead. A new you is alive — the you [...]
  • Full pardon
“Oh! rejoice in the richness of our salvation! When the Lord pardoned our sins, he did not pardon half of them, and leave some of them on the book—but with one stroke of the pen he gave a full receipt for all our debts. When we went down into the fountain filled with blood, and washed, [...]
  • As Broad as Creation
“The gospel as recorded in Scripture is as broad as creation. Since the church has been sent to make known this good news in all of life, in actions and in words, the church’s mission is, likewise, as broad as creation.” - Mike Goheen and Craig Bartholomew, Living at the Crossroads (Grand Rapids, Mi.; Baker Academic, [...]
  • Forward lies the crown
“In our Christian pilgrimage it is well, for the most part, to be looking forward. Forward lies the crown—and onward is the goal. Whether it is for hope, for joy, for consolation, or for the inspiring of our love—the future must, after all, be the grand object of the eye of faith. Looking into the future, [...]
  • A dark shadow over the world
“Christ’s salvation is of such a kind that it expresses the ultimate reality of guilt and exposes it in all its stark actuality. It exposes it in terms of the wrath of God, but at the same time manifests in the midst of it all the infinite and overwhelming love of God, and enacts the [...]
